From October 18 to 21, 2021, China Diplomatic Academy (CDA)’s 12th class for locality and training session for officials of Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province was successfully held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The training session was hosted by the Department of Personnel of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Organization Department of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and organized by CDA and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Ye Zhenqin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Liu Xiaoming, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs, Chen Chunsheng, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Miao Deyu, Director-General of the Department of Policy Planning of the Foreign Ministry, Chen Qiuyan, Director General of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Xu Zhongsheng, Vice Chancellor of CDA and others attended the opening ceremony. Nearly 150 officials from 21 departments at prefectural and municipal levels in Guangdong Province were present.
Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee Ye Zhenqin said that on the occasion of the 130th Canton Fair, the class for locality, a high-end training brand of the Foreign Ministry, is of great significance for Guangdong. It is also a strong support for the province to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era and Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, and for those working on foreign affairs at local level in Guangdong to pursue the development of the construction of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), Shenzhen Pilot Demonstration Area of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and Hengqin and Qianhai Cooperation Zones. As the largest and highest-level foreign-related training session in Guangdong in recent years, the training session will play a significant role in helping foreign affairs officials in Guangdong gain a deeper understanding of Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, further improve their political stance and capabilities, better serve China’s overall diplomacy and contribute to the high-quality development and opening up of Guangdong Province.
Vice Chancellor of CDA Xu Zhongsheng noted that this class for locality of CDA is an important measure to study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at a ceremony marking the centenary of the Communist Party of China. Focusing on learning, understanding and implementing a study outline for Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, this training session calls for efforts to study the Party’s history, understand its theories, do practical work and make new advances. Based on the tasks and needs of the foreign affairs work of Guangdong Province under the new situation, this training aims to help foreign affairs officials of Guangdong learn Party history, enhance their pioneering spirits and abilities, and bear in mind the country’s most fundamental interests. It will also enable the officials to better serve a new development paradigm with domestic circulation as the mainstay and domestic and international circulations reinforcing each other, and China’s overall diplomacy under the new situation, and better promote the major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era in thinking, political orientation, and action.
Liu Xiaoming, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs, Miao Deyu, Director-General of the Department of Policy Planning of the Foreign Ministry, Zhang Bin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Jiang Xu, Counsellor of the Department of Foreign Affairs Management of the Foreign Ministry, Rong Ying, Vice President of the China Institute of International Studies and others gave lectures featuring Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy, Xi Jinping Thought on News Reporting and Public Opinion, China-Africa relations, foreign affairs management, and economic diplomacy. During the training session, the trainees also visited the Peasant Movement Training Institute in Guangzhou to appreciate the great achievements of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context. Experts of the Party’s history were invited to give lectures on the Party history over the past 100 years for the trainees, who had group discussions about promoting the innovative development of Guangdong’s foreign affairs work under the new situation and reported their discussion results.
The trainees spoke highly of the results of the training, believing that it coincided with the in-depth study of a study outline for Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy organized by departments relevant to foreign affairs in Guangdong Province. This training session effectively guided and promoted officials in foreign affairs in Guangdong to acquire strength from the CPC’s struggle over the past 100 years, further improved their political stance, pioneering spirits and professionalism, and enabled them to plan and advance the foreign affairs work in accordance with the overall development of the whole province. It will help Guangdong better achieve high-quality development, and better serve China’s overall diplomacy and major tasks in the new stage.
