On September 15, 2020, Party Secretary of the CPC Committee of the Foreign Ministry Qi Yu met with the 2020 new personnel of the Foreign Ministry at the Olive Hall, and made heart-warming remarks.
On behalf of State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the CPC Committee of the Foreign Ministry and all personnel of the Foreign Ministry, Secretary Qi Yu extended a warm welcome to the new personnel. He said, after competitive examinations, the new personnel from all over our motherland have entered the Foreign Ministry with ideals and become the glorious "PLA in civil service", which attribute to your hard working and the long-term training by the Party and the country. As the successors of the Party and the country's diplomatic cause, you are full of vigor and high spirits. You have injected fresh blood into and added new forces to the diplomatic team. Today, as your diplomatic career starts, everyone must lay a solid foundation from the beginning and fasten the "first button" of your diplomatic career.
The first is to strengthen political education. Diplomatic work serves the CPC Central Committee at home, and represents the image of China at abroad. It safeguards national interests, which holds strong political attributes and is by no means merely service work. Among General Secretary Xi Jinping’s general requirements for a diplomatic team in which he called for the diplomatic team to be loyal to the CPC, the country and the people and be politically solid, professionally competent and strongly disciplined in their conduct and his "four-forever-preserve", the foremost is political requirement. The Foreign Ministry is a political organ and must take a clear-cut stand in political awareness. We must give top priority to learning the basic principles of Marxism, Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy. Only by mastering the stand, viewpoint and methods of the thoughts can we always have full confidence in our ideals and convictions, have a firm political stance, and meet the political organs' work requirements in the face of all tests.
The second is to work hard in a down-to-earth manner. You are young, energetic and well-educated, and have ideals and ambitions. However, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. No matter how far the destination is, there is no shortcut and we have to get there step by step. After starting your work in the Foreign Ministry, you must avoid being overambitious, take every task assigned by officials seriously and learn from your department heads and colleagues with an open mind. You must earnestly learn the basic skills and constantly improve working competence with a hard-working spirit and single-hearted devotion. Young people's growth and success cannot be achieved overnight. It takes hard work over a long period of time. I hope everyone will be prepared for a long-term struggle.
The third is to be strongly disciplined in conduct. Iron-like discipline is a distinct feature of the diplomatic team. From the first day in the Foreign Ministry, you should regard strengthening discipline awareness as a lifelong compulsory course throughout your diplomatic career. All young personnel must bear in mind and put into practice the diplomatic discipline, and maintain a high level of vigilance at all times. For foreign affairs personnel, any thoughts, conducts and styles that violate the relevant disciplinary provisions for Party members and civil servants are forbidden. It is hoped that everyone will keep it in mind, resolutely obey decisions made by Party organizations, willingly accept oversight, and more importantly, well discipline yourself.
Warmly encouraging the new personnel, Secretary Qi Yu concluded, everyone is a new force on the diplomatic front, and you will become the main force in the diplomatic cause in the future. It is hoped that you will remain true to our original aspirations, keep our mission firmly in mind, and seize the day and live it to the full. It is hoped that you will live up to the expectations of the Party and the people, always have a strong sense of political responsibility and historical mission, and actively participate in the practice of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era, so as to make important contributions of your generation to the diplomatic cause of the Party and the country, and make the grade in responding to the party and the people.
