From November 14 to 18, the 2022 United Nations Junior Professional Officers (JPO) Programme Training Session for young civil servants of Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions was successfully held online. Sun Lei, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of China's Foreign Ministry, and An Qing, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee of China Foreign Affairs University (CFAU) and Vice Chancellor of China Diplomatic Academy (CDA), attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Chen Kai, Counsellor of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences of China's Foreign Ministry, and Xu Zhongsheng, Vice Chancellor of CDA, attended the closing ceremony and communicated with the trainees. Fifteen young civil servants of Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions participated in the training.

The training session focused on learning, publicizing and implementing the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress. Department-level and bureau-level officials from China's Foreign Ministry, former senior officials of international organizations and renowned experts and scholars were invited to give lectures and exchange views on topics such as Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy and major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, China and the United Nations, international organizations and global governance, and work related to international organizations. Besides, an innovative activity was arranged for the trainees - online visits to China’s green, low-carbon and sustainable development projects and Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Site Museum, which enabled them to have a comprehensive understanding of China’s profound history and rich culture as well as its achievements in modern science, technology and development.

The trainees expressed that as Junior Professional Officers (JPO) from Hong Kong and Macao, they should proceed from the situation of Hong Kong and Macao, dedicate themselves to their motherland and expand their visions to the whole world. The training session deepened their understanding of China’s foreign policy, China’s bright development prospects and profound historical and cultural heritage, and the United Nations system. They also promised to make full use of the knowledge and experience they acquired in the training session and turn into qualified international civil servants at an early date when working in the United Nations.
